Christmas Trail Mix is a delicious sweet treat made with sugared popcorn with sweet and salty additions such as pretzels, candies, even brightly-colored sweetened cereal.
It’s an easy inexpensive treat for the holidays. I even share a fun way to make it into an inexpensive homemade gift as well.
Santa Munch Christmas Trail Mix
This Christmas Trail Mix is a delicious sweet treat that’s simple to make. You can serve it to your Christmas guests at your holiday gathering, place it in a festive bowl to leave as Santa’s snack or even make it into a fun inexpensive gift.
I use sugared popcorn as an inexpensive sweet base, then add sweet and salty treats to complete my trail mix.
How To Make Sweetened Popcorn
You can see more detailed directions to making Candied Popcorn Here.
But basically:
Melt the following ingredients to a rolling boil until it reaches the soft ball stage, which is around 235ºF for my altitude here in NE Texas.
-
-
-
2 tablespoons of butter
-
1/4 cup water
-
1 cup of sugar
-
-
Then mix syrup quickly into popcorn to coat and allow to dry until crunchy. You can place the coated popcorn in a low-temperature oven for a few moments if desired for extra crunchiness.
Just be careful not to allow it to scorch.
Colorful Treats To Make Christmas Trail Mix
Now that you have the sweetened base for your Christmas Trail Mix, it’s time to add some fun salty and sweet treats. I use:
-
-
Salted peanuts
-
Small cheese crackers
-
Mini pretzels
-
Whopper’s chocolate candies
-
Christmas-Colored M&M’s
-
Colorful sweetened cereal such as Cap’n Crunch w/Crunch Berries
-
Just gently mix the treats into the cooled sweetened popcorn. I love the bright colors and sweet/salty combination of this Christmas Trail Mix!
Christmas Trail Mix Makes A Great Gift Idea
I’ve even turned this Christmas Trail Mix into a cute and inexpensive Snowman Treat Jar Gift. I used large clean repurposed jars that once held peanut butter and decorated the jar to look like a snowman.
The primarily white popcorn works well with the snowman theme.
I gifted these to my young grandchildren one year and they loved it. You could also use it as an inexpensive gift idea for your coworkers, etc.
Happy Holidays, Y’all!

Gosh, I just bought my ingredients yesterday to make my Oyster Cracker mix. ( usually double the mix each time I make it) Makes for a nice item to put in gift baskets.
