How To Make Crisp Rice Cereal Easter Nest Treats
A quick no-bake Easter treat – homemade mini nests filled with treats. This simple recipe is certainly kid friendly! Simply melt butter & mini marshmallows in the microwave, add vanilla extract & crisped rice cereal. Form the mixture into a nest shape in a silicone muffin pan and allow them to set. Then pop them out, fill with fun treats & enjoy. Easy!
Ingredients Needed
Making these cute springtime treats is simple and uses only a few ingredients:
Crisp Rice Cereal
Marshmallows
Butter
Vanilla Extract
Nest-Filling Treats Such As Mini Robin Eggs Candy, Jelly Beans, M&M’s or Fresh Berries
Step-by-Step Instructions
Melting the Butter and Marshmallows – In a microwavable cup melt the butter. Then place marshmallows in a large microwavable bowl and add the melted butter, stirring to coat. Heat the marshmallow mixture for 30 seconds in a microwave, then stir. Repeat until the marshmallows are fully melted and smooth. Then add the vanilla extract and stir again.
Adding the Crisp Rice Cereal – After marshmallow mixture is melted add the crisped rice cereal in 2 cup increments. Stir with each addition until cereal is fully coated.
NOTE: There are many delicious brands of crisped rice cereal. But unless you’re familiar with them I’d opt for the name brand Rice Krispies. I’ve tried other brands and although they’re delicious, they often have a heavier, chewier texture.
Shaping the Nests – When the cereal is fully coated with marshmallow mixture, place a rounded ¼ cup of mixture into each silicone muffin cup, shaping each one into a bowl shape.
NOTE: Silicone muffin pans are recommended. If using a standard muffin pan you may need to butter the cups to make it easier to remove the mini nest treats later.
Then place the filled muffin pan in the refrigerator to allow treats to set for an hour or more.
SHORTCUT: To keep treats from sticking to your hands as you’re shaping them you can use a small metal condiment cup to form each nest. Just place the cup in the middle of each mound, press down & twist to make the bowl shape. Shaping the nests with wet hands also helps keep mixture from sticking.
Filling nests with treats – When the bird’s nests are set, pop them out of the silicone muffin cups and fill them with treats such as:
Mini Robin’s Egg Candies
Jelly Beans
Fresh berries such as blueberries, raspberries or Strawberries
Serving & Presentation Tips:
You can make a cute filling by adding a couple of drops of green food color to a few tablespoons of shredded coconut and stir to coat to make it look like grass filler for your nests.
I like to serve the mini nests in cupcake liners. It just makes a pretty presentation. (I have reusable *Silicone Cupcake Liners so NO WASTE!
Mini-Nest Shortcut: You can use prepackaged Rice Krispie treats to make these Easter nests in minutes. Just push a treat into a silicone muffin pan, form into a nest shape, fill with treats and BOOM!

No-Bake Mini Nest Treats Easter
Easy Rice Krispy no-bake treats shaped into a nest and filled with Easter treats. This recipe makes about 20 candy filled mini Easter Nests. Fill with mini eggs, jellybeans or fresh fruit.
Ingredients
- 4 Cups Mini Marshmallows (6½ ounces) Note: Mini-Marshmallows melt faster.
- 6 Cups Crispy Rice Cereal (5.7 ounces)
- 3 Tablespoons Butter (1½ ounces) melted
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
- 2 Cups Treats to fill such as candy or berries. (see note below)
Instructions
-
Place 3 Tablespoons butter in a microwave-safe cup and microwave 30 seconds or until melted.
-
In large microwavable bowl place 4 cups mini marshmallows and add melted butter, stirring to coat. Heat marshmallow mixture in 30-second intervals, stirring after each time until fully melted & smooth.
-
Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to melted marshmallows and stir well to incorporate.
-
Gradually add 6 cups rice cereal about 2 cups at a time, gently folding into the marshmallow mixture each time until all of the cereal is coated.
-
Divide mixture evenly between 20 muffin cups (approx 1/4 cups each) and press gently to compress the mixture slightly. Then press the center of each treat into a small bowl shape.
-
Place muffin pan in the refrigerator to set for about an hour or more.
-
When the nests are set, pop them out of the muffin pan and fill with mini robin's eggs, jellybeans or small berries.
Recipe Notes
Notes: If your cupcake pan isn't silicone you may need to grease the cups to be able to pop the treats out more easily.
Use a small metal condiment cup to more easily form the bowl shape without treats sticking to your hands. Or you can shape the treats into a bowl using wet hands.
Treat Filling Options
There are several options to fill the mini nests:
Mini Robin's Eggs Candies
Peanut or Plain M&M's
Jelly Beans
Fresh Blueberries, Raspberries or Strawberries
