Throw-Back Thursday Recipe

by Texas Homesteader ~

That handsome RancherMan of mine sure does love bread. But he loves MY homemade bread the most! Awwww…. Especially since I finally learned to make a soft & fluffy sandwich bread from scratch. But these days I’m more likely to be making that recipe using some oat flour. My oat flour is just oatmeal that I’ve ground into a flour using a coffee grinder.

I know how healthy oats are for you, and now I’ve included it in my homemade sandwich bread!

Throwback Thursday

Remember when RancherMan & I were traveling in East Texas and we stopped at a hole-in-the-wall dive for lunch? (ya know, sometimes those are the best places to eat!) We saw a menu item called ‘Poor Man’s Steak”. It was a hamburger patty stuffed with onion, bell peppers, jalapenos and cheese. And it was absolutely amazing!

I couldn’t wait to get back home & replicate that dish. And today to celebrate Throwback Thursday I’m sharing it with y’all again. Enjoy!

Throwback Thursday: Easy Recipe

by Texas Homesteader ~

Whelp, another Thanksgiving in the books, hope yours was as awesome as ours was! We got all four kids (and all four grandbabies) in the same place at the same time. Warms a mama’s heart. Of course there was lots of good food too and that inspires today’s Throwback Thursday topic.

Have you priced a can of cherry pie filling in the stores? (gasp!) And have you noticed there’s lots of filling, but not so many cherries? Well that just won’t do for my Mix-n-Serve Cherry Shtuff Dessert. I like lots of cherries! So I discovered how easy it is to make a can’s worth (about 1 cup). Check it out!

Throwback Thursday

by Texas Homesteader ~

Cleaning, we all have to do it.  Some absolutely hate it, some don’t really mind.  Some even relish in the tasks, finding it cathartic & loving their fresh, clean surroundings afterward.  But whether you love it or hate it, cleaning our homes is just a part of life.  But lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the myriad of cleaning products available on the shelves these days.  A different spray bottle of chemicals for each kind of surface.  And it makes me wonder – why in the world have we complicated cleaning?

So to celebrate Throwback Thursday I thought I’d share with you my thoughts about some simple, easy, inexpensive & grandma-approved cleaning techniques.

Throwback Thursday: Easy Recipe

by Texas Homesteader ~

To celebrate Throwback Thursday I’m gonna share with you a recipe for honey-sweetened whipped cream. You see, I’d never made homemade whipped cream before.  Everyone told me it was super easy, but it took our sweet granddaughter whipping up homemade whipped cream before our very eyes to give me the push to try making it myself.  I found a delicious honey-sweetened whipped cream recipe over at Real Food Enthusiast, and decided to give it a try.

I tweaked the recipe to suit our tastes, but boy howdy was it ever delicious.  And easy!  Check it out.

I finally took the leap and made my own honey-sweetened whipped cream. It was delicious, fast and oh-so-easy! #TexasHomesteader

Throwback Thursday: Craft

by Texas Homesteader ~

Our clean clothes are always dried on the line.  Heck we live where blue skies rule, why not use that free solar energy to dry our clothes?  And that line-dried aroma?  (breathes deeply…)  Is there anything like it??!!

Recently for her birthday I made my sister the cutest clothespin apron ever.  (I’m jealous, so I want to use the rest of the cloth to make one for myself!)  It was easy even with my oh-so-limited sewing abilities, and she loves it!

To celebrate Throwback Thursday, I’ll share the tutorial today.  Check it out, y’all!

Throwback Thursday: Crafts

by Texas Homesteader ~

Let’s celebrate Throwback Thursday, shall we?  Today’s share is one of my favorite projects too.  You see, last year I was so saddened that a huge cedar tree that had died in our barn pasture and had to be cut down. I loved that tree!

We used one of the larger limbs for my Clothesline Pole and while I loved that, the rest of this massive tree was just hauled to the burn pile.  I couldn’t stand that soon the bonfire would be lit & it would be gone forever.  So I asked RancherMan to go out to the burn pile & cut some of the thicker parts of the tree into 3 separate lengths.  Puzzled, he placated me anyway.  I absolutely love what we made with them.
