It’s common for expenses to jump during the holidays. There are special gatherings to plan, gifts to buy, special foods, extra travel expenses and more.
And then sometimes things happen in your life that you just couldn’t plan for. It’s time to tighten the belt even more. Come see my tips.
I think it’s a beautiful thing that when I take steps to save money it almost always also has a positive environmental effect. But it was a busy week for us and sometimes when life gets hectic I take shortcuts, which can have a negative effect on my environmental awareness as well as our budget. But I think I did very well staying true to my environmental self as well as to our budget. C’mon & see 5 things we did to save money (and the environment!) this week.
Spring is almost here in NE Texas! How glorious to see things turning green, colorful flowers popping up and the temps warming. RancherMan & I have been busy building new chicken runs and preparing the garden for planting. We’re in Planting Zone 8 so I’m safe to drop the veggie seedlings into the ground around Easter and I. Can’t. WAIT! But I digress… (eh hemm…)
Today’s topic is saving money, and saving money is important to RancherMan & me – being self-employed means we’re always keeping a watchful eye on our dollars. Thankfully there are ample opportunities to save some cold hard cash. C’mon and see what we did this week to save money.
Five is not a large number, and 5 frugal things aren’t difficult for most households to accomplish. I’m hoping this short list of easy frugal things we did at our own home one day might inspire you to look at your own tasks. Perhaps you’ll start tackling just 5 easy things to save money in your own home.
As an added bonus, almost always those money-saving tasks are environmentally friendly as well. So without doubling your effort you’re able to double your effect! Gotta love it, right?? See what today’s short list of 5 frugal things are in our home…
RancherMan & I are able to live & work here on our Homestead – a place that speaks to our hearts – because we are very careful with our finances. You know what they say, “small leaks sink great ships” or, you know, something like that…
Anyway, my point is that by paying attention to the smaller things, living frugally just becomes a way of life. There’s really no sacrifice, just a consciousness of frugal tasks that make sense in the flow of our days. In my case frugality is only part of the reason I’m paying attention – many times those same tasks are also environmentally friendly too. And that’s a two-fer win for me!
We love feeding the beautiful wild birds. So we used to buy the large expensive bags of bird seed at the big-box store. But those wild birds can really go through a lot of feed!
We discovered there’s an oh-so-much-cheaper way to fill the feeder, y’all. Check out today’s Homestead Hack.
WHEW, what a month it’s been! Y’all know RancherMan & I embarked on an entire month-long Grocery No-Spend Challenge. It was a rigid challenge, allowing for no purchases whatsoever on anything grocery related which included dining out, beverages and herbs, etc.
Week One wasn’t bad at all. Our pantry & freezers were full so there really wasn’t much change to our routines.
Week Two had a few catches but it was still easily workable.
By the time we got to Week Three was a little more of a challenge and we had to make several compromises. But by then I’d pretty much hit my stride. Plus we had our eye on the end of the month, so our motivation was still pretty high which helped a lot.
But how about that last week? Read on, dear friends.
