RancherMan loves his iced tea. I love that it’s a healthier drink option for him than many other choices. And brewing our own tea means no trash. Plus it’s super cheap.

All. Good. Stuff.

But did you know it doesn’t necessarily have to be hot outside to brew tea? All you really need is sunshine. There are a couple of ways I’m able to provide RancherMan with that delicious beverage he loves. Brewed in winter or summer: No purchased energy necessary!

Sun Tea - quick to brew using the power of the sun whether winter or summer. A delicious, healthy and trash free beverage. #TexasHomesteader

Biodegradable weed block for your planting rows in the garden? Yes it’s really a thing! And it degrades by the end of the season to just mix back into your soil. I’ve been able to source it for free using repurposed feed sacks.

Biodegradable weed block for the garden? As it turns out, it's really a thing! And it degrades by the end of the season to just mix back into your soil. I hate the plastic weed block, this more natural material appeals to me! #TexasHomesteader

We have a system for finding the perfect high-quality products at the lowest price. (Hint: When researching a potential purchase we look at price LAST although it’s still most often cheaper!)

How To Make An All-Natural Air Freshener For Pennies

by Texas Homesteader ~

I easily make my own natural air freshener using only baking soda, essential oil, a repurposed canning jar & some pretty leftover lace. It’s simple to refresh when needed and it’s an inexpensive zero-waste answer to a deodorizing problem.

I don't want artificial air fresheners & scented candles in our home. So I easily made my own air freshener with baking soda, essential oil, a repurposed canning jar & leftover lace. #TexasHomesteader

Beeswax Wraps – The Sustainable Answer to Plastic Wrap

by Texas Homesteader ~

Y’all know I shun plastic like a banshee, right? I haven’t accepted a plastic shopping bag from the store in years, much preferring my pretty shopping basket anyway.

And I refuse to buy overly-packaged items too. I’ve learned that recycling isn’t the answer to our landfill problems – PRE-Cycling is!

But what is precycling? Well that’s shunning trash from coming into your home in the first place.

But today I’m talking about cling film. You know the stuff, it’s always sticking to itself and hardly ever sticking to the item you’re trying to wrap. Use it once & throw it away.

But whaddyagonnado??  Well, I’ve started using beeswax wraps!

Beeswax Wraps are the sustainable answer to plastic cling film. I use beeswax harvested directly from the comb in our beehives. #TexasHomesteader

Eliminate Plastic Produce Bags

I don’t typically use plastic produce bags. I mean, my veggies can usually play nice without being separated from each other by plastic.  đŸ™‚

But sometimes with bulk buying it’s just easier for the cashier to have like items all bundled together. So if I buy 16 roma tomatoes to make Pico de Gallo for a family dinner, bundling them all together for the cashier just makes sense.

But oh how I hated to use that plastic bag. I mean, yeah, I’ll make sure it gets reused somehow when I get home. But I’m trying to SHUN plastic aren’t I?

I don't use plastic produce bags at the store, but when buying in bulk it's helpful to bundle. I use see-through reusable bags! #TexasHomesteader
