Applesauce Can Replace Fat In Baked Goods – More Fiber, More Vitamins, Healthier Snacks

by Texas Homesteader ~

Did you know that you can substitute some (or even ALL) of the oil in your baked treats with applesauce? The result can be fewer calories, more fiber & vitamins and nearly zero difference to taste.

Whaaaaa….??? No, really!

Not only do I enjoy eating homemade applesauce straight from the jar, but it replaces a cooking item I typically have to buy. You can substitute applesauce for oil #TexasHomesteader

by Texas Homesteader ~

I love strawberry shortcake, don’t you? Recently I wrote about making homemade strawberry shortcake dessert for my handsome RancherMan and two of our grandbabies. It was a lip-smacking dessert that looked and tasted like I’d been in the kitchen for hours.

I’ll never tell them that it was super-easy to whip it all up from scratch – even the shortcake!  C’mon y’all, I’ll let ya in on how I did it.

I wanted to make Strawberry Shortcake from scratch & was pleasantly surprised at how easy & quick it was - even the whipped cream! #TexasHomesteader

But in the past I always bought the little round shortcakes wrapped in plastic when I’d made strawberry shortcake. This time I wanted to make it all from scratch.

Making Egg Disks For Breakfast Biscuits – Your Own Convenience Food!

by Texas Homesteader ~

I like to serve biscuits with scrambled eggs, cheese and a breakfast meat to overnight guests. They call them BOBs (Breakfast-on-a-Biscuit). Making the pre-formed scrambled egg disk is easy.

The beautiful thing is I can make everything in advance & just assemble & enjoy.

BOB, or Breakfast on a Biscuit - is a quick company-worthy breakfast of scrambled eggs, thinly-sliced ham & cheese on a biscuit. #TexasHomesteader

Fluffy, Delicious, Jalapeno/Cheese Yeast Bread Recipe

by Texas Homesteader ~

When we travel to west Texas to visit my aunt, she always picks up a couple of loaves of our favorite jalapeno-cheese bread from a nearby deli for us to enjoy while we were there.

I wondered if I could make a loaf of that spicy, cheesy bread at home. So I decided that the next time I was baking RancherMan his favorite sandwich bread I’d make one loaf into a jalapeno-cheese bread.

I figured it would as simple as rolling out the dough, sprinkling chopped jalapenos and some grated jalapeno muenster cheese given to us by a very sweet friend before rolling the dough into a loaf before baking.

But did it work?

I Use My Standard Fluffy, Delicious, Sandwich Bread Recipe To Make A Spicy Jalapeno-Cheese Bread Version. DELICIOUS and so easy! #TexasHomesteader
