Did you know that you can substitute some (or even ALL) of the oil in your baked treats with applesauce? The result can be fewer calories, more fiber & vitamins and nearly zero difference to taste.
Whaaaaa….??? No, really!

I love strawberry shortcake, don’t you? Recently I wrote about making homemade strawberry shortcake dessert for my handsome RancherMan and two of our grandbabies. It was a lip-smacking dessert that looked and tasted like I’d been in the kitchen for hours.
I’ll never tell them that it was super-easy to whip it all up from scratch – even the shortcake! C’mon y’all, I’ll let ya in on how I did it.

Recently we received some really beautiful garden-fresh strawberries. Oh the beauty of them! I decided I’d use them to make one of my favorite desserts – strawberry shortcake!
But in the past I always bought the little round shortcakes wrapped in plastic when I’d made strawberry shortcake. This time I wanted to make it all from scratch.
So I sat out to find a recipe I liked. I found one on the AllRecipes site that looked pretty straightforward so I decided to give it a try. I mean, these beautiful strawberries deserve the best #amiright??

Emergency preparedness is important. When natural disaster hits & the electricity is out, a solar oven can help keep your family fed. Even if the power is out for days or weeks, you only need the power of the sun to cook.

I like to serve biscuits with scrambled eggs, cheese and a breakfast meat to overnight guests. They call them BOBs (Breakfast-on-a-Biscuit). Making the pre-formed scrambled egg disk is easy.
The beautiful thing is I can make everything in advance & just assemble & enjoy.

I’ve made my own homemade mayonnaise for a long time. But recently I got to thinking… BACON! Now I almost always make bacon-flavored mayonnaise instead. It’s easy!

Y’all know I like to make things myself as opposed to going out to buy it. I decided to whip up some rosemary crackers made with olive oil & garlic. YUM! I have that amazing rosemary bush right outside my door and I’ve ALWAYS got olive oil. Let’s go!

When we travel to west Texas to visit my aunt, she always picks up a couple of loaves of our favorite jalapeno-cheese bread from a nearby deli for us to enjoy while we were there.
I wondered if I could make a loaf of that spicy, cheesy bread at home. So I decided that the next time I was baking RancherMan his favorite sandwich bread I’d make one loaf into a jalapeno-cheese bread.
I figured it would as simple as rolling out the dough, sprinkling chopped jalapenos and some grated jalapeno muenster cheese given to us by a very sweet friend before rolling the dough into a loaf before baking.
But did it work?
