After finding a great deal on apples I dehydrated them into soft chewy chunks. I’ll add them to my homemade granola. Good for me, good for my wallet & good for the environment!

Now y’all know that I love me some blueberry… ANYTHING. I’ve planted blueberry bushes to keep myself in steady supply of those delicious & oh-so-nutritious orbs. But until those plants grow large enough to satisfy me I’m stuck using purchased frozen berries.
Recently I realized that I had two bags of blueberries in the freezer. So I decided to make blueberry jam with some of them.
I searched around online & decided on this recipe I found at Food.com since it didn’t contain any added pectin. Of course as is the norm for me, I amended the recipe to suit our tastes.

Don’t Waste Food! Produce doesn’t have to be beautiful to be healthy & delicious. See how I play fairy godmother to some ugly carrots to make them beautiful again.

Last season I was trying to preserve as much garden excess as I could. I hated for any of it to go to waste. So we ate fresh from the garden every day, then I shared with family, friends & community. Then I preserved as much as I could either by freezing, canning or dehydrating.
You could say I was bitten by the dehydrating bug because the more I dehydrated those veggies the more enamored I became with the whole process. I was amazed at the small amount of space my dehydrated shredded potatoes took up in the pantry. I loved my dehydrated jujubes sprinkled in my homemade granola. I really enjoyed tossing dehydrated garden veggies into my never-ending soup. But now I’m experimenting with yet another way to use them. Salt-free veggie granules. OH YEAH!

After the turkey has been roasted and enjoyed, there’s still lots of food waiting to be enjoyed just by using the bones. I’ll make cheap, delicious and healthy broth with them. A money saver for sure.

I cooked whole potatoes, then cooled, shredded and dehydrated them. Now I can use those shredded dehydrated potatoes to make hash browns quickly!

I use celery from time to time when I’m cooking. But it’s always just an ingredient and never the main event in my kitchen.
So here’s what I do to make sure it’s all used up or preserved before it goes bad.

(because heaven knows *I* can’t make a photograph of a bunch of celery look like it belongs in an art studio!)

I enjoy chilled home-canned vanilla flavored pears as a simple dessert. They’re delicious eaten cold right out of the fridge. And they’re so easy to make!
