Chai Tea A Hot & Comforting Drink
I love chai tea. When it’s cold outside, a steaming cup just seems to soothe and comfort. Hot, creamy, delicious!
I’ve found an amazing recipe for homemade spiced chai hot tea mix that I can’t wait to share with you!
Chai Tea Mix A Perfect Gift Idea
My sweet sister-in-law made & gifted to me some of her homemade chai tea mix. I was thrilled, I absolutely love it! She even gifted the tea mix to me in a repurposed glass jar. Some people just GET me. Love!
So I used my laser printer and some regular ole shipping tape to make a fun customized label for the jar.
Now hot chai tea stands ready for me to whip up at a moment’s notice. What a delightful, comforting drink when it’s cold outside.
But when I shared how wonderful it tasted, the followers of my Facebook Page begged for the recipe. So I asked my SIL to share her recipe and she was happy to do it. (thanks Angela!)

Chai Tea Mix Notes:
Here are some notes my SIL shared about making this homemade chai tea mix:
- There are several ingredients but it’s super quick & easy to mix up.
- This mix has a long shelf life.
- When she makes this homemade tea mix she always quadruples the recipe. That way she can make enough to gift to others and also have enough to last for herself to enjoy all year long too.
All I know is that it’s a wonderful gift and I’m so grateful to her for gifting it to me. It’s delicious, decadent and comforting. And now, as requested, we’re sharing the recipe with you too. Enjoy!

Is this a tablespoon ground cloves?
1-1/8 teaspoons ground cloves. Give it a try, it’s delicious! ~TxH~
I have made this tea for years and it is delicious! Can’t find the liptons unsweetened tea anymore. Any suggestions what I can use instead?
Grocery store inventory will sometimes fluctuate, but I’m seeing Lipton Unsweetened Tea on Amazon here –> https://amzn.to/41hQoqK. Maybe check Amazon? ~TxH~
I absolutely love Chai Tea, but I’m also type 2 Diabetic. Have you ever reworked the recipe using a non-sugar sweetner, lower fat milk, and sugar-free Creamers??
No Donna, this is my SIL recipe and we have no dietary restrictions so this is how we enjoy it. I would think the type of non-sugar sweetener that dissolves like sugar would be a good alternative for sugar. And the powdered milk I have is low fat but I’ve seen non-fat powdered milk too. I’ve seen sugar-free creamers in the stores as well. So give it a try and let us know how you like it! ~TxH~
I made a similar recipe except I followed this one and used 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Yum I also like to sprinkle in some anise seeds to the mix. I must say wow this one is way better
Sounds delish, Cindy. The beauty of homemade – tweaks to make it to your exact liking are fun to make. Enjoy! ~TxH~
Browsing on Pinterest tonight and noticed this great post…. So glad to share and hope others will enjoy as much as I do. The year I decided to give as a gift brought me great joy when others fell in love with it too. The jar I used to gift it in was the one the instant tea came in. I find even when it is not cold outside but maybe I have had a long day or allergies give me a scratchy throat a cup of Chai tea makes everything better.
Please share, make it often and Enjoy
Angela
That’s a good point about relief of a scratchy throat, Angela. And I love, love, LOVE this tea!! Such a comfort sipping it. ~TxH~
Thank you, I can’t wait to try this. Already added the ingredients I don’t have to my grocery list.
It’s deeeeee-licious Marie. An especially comforting hot drink on these cold days of winter. ~TxH~
Please thank your Sister in Law for us!
I sure will, Laurinda. She’s made this mix for me before too and she knows how much I love it. What a great gift!! ~TxH~
