Hitting the Road: Amarillo, Texas

by Texas Homesteader ~

RancherMan & I love our home in our Northeast Texas paradise.  But sometimes a road trip is in order and we love to travel to West Texas to visit our favorite aunt and uncle. Recently we had just the opportunity after viewing our calendars and seeing it’s about to get super busy at the Taylor Household.  So we prepared our animals for our brief absence and headed west for a weekend of fun in Amarillo, Texas.

Lower-Waste Hotel Stays When Traveling

Recently RancherMan & I traveled to a city about 4 hours away from our ranch so that we could attend the 2-day Mother Earth News Fair. I’d never been to their fair before and OH MY what a great time we had!!

But since it was a two day seminar and because it was an 8-hour round trip, we decided to get a hotel room close to our destination for the weekend. Now we prefer Comfort Inn Suites because we’ve found the quality at their hotels is pretty consistent. And we like the complimentary hot & hearty breakfast that their chain of hotel offers.

Although hotel stays can be notoriously wasteful, there are a few ways RancherMan & I have easily & comfortably reduced some of the waste that would typically be produced by a hotel stay.

Mother Earth News Fair 2016 – Belton, Texas

A couple of months ago I was scanning my newsfeed and suddenly I stopped cold.  What do I see before my eyes? Could it be?  YES – the Mother Earth News Fair was coming to Texas!  I’d never been able to attend the MEN Fair before since I was under the mistaken impression that it was always held in the same location, far away from our homestead.

Imagine my utter glee at seeing that they hold fairs all around the US and now it was coming to central Texas, certainly within driving distance for RancherMan and me!  So we excitedly made plans to attend the two-day event.

I’m a full-time Homesteader. But I’m also a full-time blogger. (How does she do it, folks??  LOL)

Recently RancherMan & I were planning a road trip 7 hours away. I knew we would be away from the homestead for a week and a half.

I hated to leave my blog work at home getting further & further behind until I returned. But what’s a girl to do?

RancherMan set me up with a travelling office. Wanna see?

An inexpensive setup that allows me to take my computer on the road and work in the car during road trips. Want to see my portable office? #TexasHomesteader

Fun In The Sun At Surfside Beach, TX

by Texas Homesteader~

RancherMan & I got the opportunity to spend a week with family renting a lovely beach house at Surfside Beach near Galveston, Texas.  The plan was to meet up with my baby sister & her family as well as my big brother & his wife and we’d all gather for the week in this one large rented home large enough for all of us.

BUT my brother & his wife couldn’t make it after all.  So there were just the five of us rattling around that big lovely 2-story 4-bedroom 3-bath house.

What a fun week we had at Surfside Beach in south Texas. We rented a beach house & enjoyed the beach too. Come see what fun we had! #TexasHomesteader Continue reading

Laughlin, Nevada FUN!

by Texas Homesteader

RancherMan and I don’t travel much since we so very much enjoy our time spent right here on the ranch. It seems there’s never a lack of something fun to do or beautiful to see. But every now and then it’s still fun to get away and do something different. So when my sweet aunt & uncle got a great deal on a trip to the casinos in Laughlin and offered to let us in on the fun we couldn’t resist!

RancherMan & I don’t really do much gambling, but we really love hanging out with these family members. So we knew one way or the other it would be lots of fun…  We were comforted that our wonderful neighbors agreed to take care of things in our absence. Oh yeah, good neighbors are indeed a blessing. If you have good neighbors then you know exactly what I mean.  They kept in contact with us during our absence reassuring us that all was well at home. With that tremendous burden off our shoulders we were able to settle in and enjoy our fun vacation with family.

A trip to Laughlin Nevada is more than just gambling - what a fun trip! We also went to NV and saw the casinos & Hoover Dam. #TexasHomesteader

History & Beauty In New Braunfels, Texas

by Texas Homesteader

It’s been a difficult year for our family with various severe illnesses and familial issues. We’re a very close family and we’ve all gathered around & supported each other through the hardships. But now that things are finally beginning to settle down we all felt we needed a break.

Its not unusual for us siblings to get together for vacations and this weekend we decided to rent a house in south Texas – a small town called New Braunfels. The claim to fame for New Braunfels is the Guadalupe & Comal Rivers that cut through the city.

Comal River. We were finally able to get away for a long weekend with my siblings. We thoroughly loved our time in New Braunfels, Texas! #TexasHomesteader
