Homemade Yogurt Recipe – Stove-Top Method

by Texas Homesteader

I love my morning yogurt, y’all. But several years ago I thought to myself “I wonder if I can MAKE yogurt?”

A quick search of the internet showed that I could indeed, and there were several recipes.  I’ve never looked back!

I’ve made 1/2 gallon of yogurt about every other week for decades now & it’s shamefully easy!

Plus I make my yogurt in single-serving 1/2 pint glass canning jars so other than the milk jug itself there’s NO TRASH, recycling or otherwise.

I’m happy to share my method with you – the recipe will be included at the bottom.

Homemade yogurt is easy to make. And this stovetop version is an easy recipe that uses no special equipment. Just heat milk, cool, add starter and incubate in the oven. #TexasHomesteader

SOLAR COOKING: Making Bread Outside

As I rose early one morning and glanced out the window at yet another beautiful sunrise, I wondered if the day would be good to bake bread outside. The clouds are beginning to burn off. And a quick check of the forecast shows that the weatherman promises lots of sun and low wind.

Of course in a solar oven you need the sun to bake bread, but wind can sometimes wreak havoc with the reflectors. With promise of low wind, I decided to go for it!

SOLAR OVEN BREAD: Making Bread OUTSIDE! I use my solar oven to bake my bread using the power of the sun - gotta love it! #TexasHomesteader

I’ve Been Honored for My Recipe by Working Ranch Magazine

I'm so honored that Working Ranch Magazine honored me for a recipe I submitted for their Dinner Bell feature. #TexasHomesteader

Recently I submitted my chili recipe to Working Ranch Magazine as part of their Dinnerbell Recipe Contest.  I was so thrilled when I got the phone call saying we won!

Working Ranch sent an apron to me and asked me to wear it in my kitchen and submit a photo for their article. They’re going to feature my Cowboy Beef & Bean Chili recipe in their March issue. How cool!
