Recently North Texas was hit with a powerful icy winter storm. Our area was hit especially hard. The ice built up so heavily on every outside surface that many large tree limbs were sent crashing under their icy weight. Even entire large trees were laid over, massive root ball and all. And any trees that were left standing are severely damaged.
The devastation was pretty harsh but thankfully it was also relatively localized. The town just 8 miles from us had little to no ice on the road 24 hours later. Although there was some ice on the trees in this nearby town & I’m sure some light power outages as well, they were back to business as usual pretty quickly.

When my children were growing up and wondering what they would do for a career after they were out of school, I advised them not to follow the money but instead to do what they love for a living and they’d never ‘work‘ a day in their lives.
But what does that mean? Come see what it meant to me.
A few days ago the utility company cleared the fence line of all trees growing under their power lines. Now our fence line looks great and we didn’t have to lift a finger to clear it. They cut the trunks into fireplace-sized logs and stacked them neatly next to the fence. We contacted them to see if they had arranged for a company to collect/sell the logs – they replied that they leave them for the landowner. SCORE! We’ll let these babies cure this season & we’ll be well-stocked with firewood!
