Sweet Idea To Gift Cash
Did you ever heartache over the right thing to gift someone? Me too! Sometimes the greatest thing you can gift someone is cash. That way they can pick out the perfect size, color or option themselves.
But you hate to just hand a wad of cash over, ya know??
Mom always said ‘Presentation is Half The Gift’, and mama’s always right. We decided to hide some money in a jar of candy for our grandkids. It was easy, inexpensive and fun!
Items Needed For Candy & Cash Gift
The items needed for our sweet treat money jars were simple:
4″ Tall Wide-Mouth Jar
Approximately 1-1½” Diameter Cardboard Tube
Bag of Small Colorful Candies (M&M’s or Skittles work well here)
Really, that and however much money you want to gift is all that’s needed!
Where To Find Jars For This Candy & Cash Gift
I could use one of my pint wide-mouth canning jars for these gifts. But more & more often around our area it’s hard to find a place that recycles glass.
My sister saves small wide-mouth jars for me. So I keep and reuse those jars for storing food in our pantry or leftovers in the fridge.
I had several matching jars that were the perfect size for our sweet treat gift of cash. Not only does that leave purchased canning jars for actual canning but it’s a FREE and eco-friendly choice too. You know that makes my crunchy-green heart sing!
It’s one more way I’m able to be more eco friendly by repurposing MORE & recycling LESS!
Prepare Jar For Filling With Treats
To prepare our repurposed jars to fill with candy we first removed the plastic labels. They peeled away relatively easily but left behind a sticky residue.
RancherMan rubbed those sticky areas with WD40 on a cloth to remove the residue. Then a quick wash and thorough drying and the jars were ready to be filled.
If the lids of your repurposed jars show a product name, simply paint the top with a quick coat of spray paint. Once the lids are solidly colored and fully dry you can even add a fun design using a contrasting-colored *Paint Pen – snowflakes, snowman, a cute saying, etc. Whatever you like!
Filling Gift Jars With Candy And Cash
Now that your jars are ready it’s time to fill them with your treats.
* Cut cardboard tube to the height of your jar
* Center the tube in your jar. (To keep candies from falling into the tube I temporarily plug the cardboard top with some wadded paper until after the candies are added.)
* Use a funnel to add candies into the jar to surround & hide the tube
* Add cash to the cardboard tube & replace the lid
Embellish your Candy & Cash Jar Gift however you like: Ribbons, bows, etc.
Where To Find 1″ Cardboard Tubes?
You can buy *Cardboard Tubes online. But there are other ways you can get cardboard tubes for free right at home:
Cut an empty paper towel cardboard tube to size.
Find cardboard tubes in empty boxes of parchment paper, plastic wrap, waxed paper, etc.
Use the cardboard tube from empty roll of giftwrap. (A timely tip!)
Other Cute Ways To Gift Cash
Here are a few other festive ways we’ve gifted money during the holidays:
There are cute *Themed Money Envelopes you can buy.
We’ve folded money into cute shapes including a heart and a jet plane.
A Snowman made from a large box of candy and a pair of gloves makes for a two-fer way to gift cash.
Happy gifting!
