Homemade Chocolate Pudding Recipe

Ingredients

  • Cups Sugar (see note below about making pudding gluten free)
  • Cup All-Purpose Flour (see note below about making pudding gluten free)
  • ½ Cup Cocoa
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
  • ½ Cup Tap Water
  • 3 Large Egg Yolks
  • Cups Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons Butter
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a skillet mix dry ingredients together.
  2. Add boiling water and butter and mix well - place on stove burner set to medium heat, stirring often.

  3. When butter is melted add milk and stir. Cook until thickened.

  4. Place egg yolks in measuring cup with the 1/2 cup cool water and mix thoroughly.
  5. Pour this mixture into the pudding and continue stirring and cooking over medium heat for a couple of minutes more or until thickened into pudding consistency.

  6. When pudding is thick, remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

  7. If preferred, you can garnish with whipped cream

Recipe Notes

Gluten-Free Chocolate Pudding Notes:

To make my pudding recipe gluten free I replace the flour with 2½ Tablespoons of cornstarch.

It tends to be sweeter so I reduce the sugar to 1 cup as well. But the other ingredients and the procedure are the same.
