How I make my own inexpensive 'cream of' anything soup fast. #TexasHomesteader

Cream-Of-Chicken Soup

No need to run to the store when you need a can Cream of WHATEVER soup.  It's quick & easy to make yourself!  And without those questionable ingredients in the canned stuff. #TexasHomesteader

Ingredients

  • Cups Chicken broth
  • ¼ Cup Milk
  • 4 Tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon Celery seed
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Leftover shredded chicken optional

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix 4 Tablespoons flour, salt, pepper, and ¼ teaspoon celery seed.

  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, add flour mixture & slowly stir in 2¼ cups chicken broth and ¼ cup milk. Simmer over medium heat until thickened. (You can add leftover shredded chicken if desired for a meatier soup.)

  3. Remove from heat and use in the place of a can of Cream-Of-Chicken soup in your recipe!

Optional Add-In's For Homemade Cream-Of-Something Soup

If you want a heartier cream-of soup you can add any of these ingredients while soup is simmering:

Chopped cooked chicken for cream-of-chicken soup

Drained can of mushroom pieces for cream-of-mushroom soup

Minced, sauteed celery for cream-of-celery soup

Minced sauteed onions or garlic for extra flavor

A tablespoon of butter or bacon grease to add richness
