But that was before I started on this simple life journey. I’ve since learned that it’s beyond easy to whip up these spice mixes for myself. Come see…

What is Taco Seasoning Mix Made Of?

It couldn’t be easier to make your own taco seasoning. And it takes only a few simple pantry staple ingredients:

Now my homemade taco seasoning is at the ready whenever I need it.

How Much Taco Seasoning Does This Recipe Make?

This recipe makes over a cup & a half of taco seasoning. Since we eat lots of Tex-Mex food, I needed to make plenty of taco seasoning!

But feel free to scale it down to a smaller quantity if needed to reflect how often you’ll be using this savory seasoning for your own family.

What Dishes Use Taco Seasoning?

I use taco seasoning when making some of our favorite Tex-Mex meals such as:

Leftover roast turned into street tacos using flour tortillas. #TexasHomesteader

Carnitas Tacos

Stacked Chile Relleno Casserole

Taco Spaghetti

Pulled-Pork Enchiladas

Taco Soup

Sheet Pan Beef Quesadillas

Or… well anything Tex-Mex flavored!

RancherMan & I enjoy lots of Tex-Mex food, y’all. You know, ’cause that’s how we roll in Texas! You can see my favorite Tex-Mex recipes here:

How Much Taco Seasoning For 1 Pound of Meat?

I typically use 2 Tablespoons of my homemade seasoning per pound of ground meat.

Ground meat and onions cooked in cast iron skillet with homemade taco seasoning mix. #TexasHomesteader

I typically brown the meat, strain the grease and sprinkle on my seasoning. And all these spices were already in my kitchen so whipping up the seasoning mix took only minutes. It was oh-so-cheap too.

And (my fave) there’s NO tiny foil packet to throw away each & every time I use it.

Other Favorite Homemade Seasoning Mixes

I use repurposed jars & containers for all my homemade seasoning mixess.

Breakfast Sausage Seasoning

Pinto Bean Seasoning Mix

BBQ Dry Rub Seasoning

Pre-Mix Salt/Pepper Ratio

Making seasoning mixes yourself gives you so much more flexibility and control over the ingredients. Make it & use it the way ya like it!

Yes, of course I’ll share my homemade taco seasoning recipe with you!

Great mix. Having my own homemade taco mix in the cabinet is so convenient and cheap since I don’t have to buy those little packets of the premade stuff. Plus I can amend each batch of homemade taco seasoning as I like, adding fewer or more of any specific seasoning my family enjoys.

I, also make my own taco seasoning. I don’t eat as much as you do, because Kaleigh has suddenly decided she doesn’t like tacos. She had a touch of the flu one time and blamed getting sick on the tacos. No one else got sick but she hasn’t eaten them since. So I just make small batches and put it in a 4 oz. canning jars. I also make my own pumpkin pie seasoning. It also gets stored in the small canning jars.

    Super Good Stuff.
I make this All the time. My son-in-laws kept asking for me to make more for them, so I finally decided to tape the recipe right to their gifted jar for them to make themselves.

This recipe is very adaptable, Patti. We like the flavor of cumin so sometimes I’ll stir in a little more if it suits me. Tweak it to suit your tastes, but I will say – you’ll never buy the commercial stuff again… Bon Appetit! ~TxH~
